20.06.2023

This initiative was announced at the round table “Safe Environment — Safe Country” organized by Alliance Altyn, a developer of the Jeruy gold deposit in Talas region. On June 16, Talas State University hosted the round table attended by officials from the Presidential Plenipotentiary Mission in the region, environmentalists, scientists, water resources and emergency management specialists, public and government agencies, and members of the community. The participants discussed environmental problems of Talas region.

As a result of the discussion, a resolution was adopted. The round table focused on reforestation of the region, rational water use, purification, waste sorting, prevention of fires and keeping forests clean. The participants initiated a wide clean-up day and invited locals to join, said Kynatbek Sarchayev, Head of PR, Alliance Altyn. He said that the company plans to organize a voluntary clean-up in Talas forests in the fall, after the summer holiday season. Presidential Plenipotentiary Mission in the region will support the clean-up.

The round table also discussed the environmental impact of Jeruy gold mine. The environmentalists emphasized that the company’s activities are monitored, there are regular inspections, and the company haven’t had major fails for eight years. Bekmurza Ashymov, Head of Talas Regional Department of the Ministry of Natural Resources, Environment and Technical Supervision, noted that the company is committed to protecting the environment. He added that the waste recycling project to make construction materials is currently under development and will be presented to Alliance Altyn for joint implementation.

Viktor Vinogradov, deputy director of the Institute of Chemistry and Phytotechnology of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic, noted that zero-waste production is possible at the mine in the future: "We tested the waste and found extremely low level of pollutants. This explains why the production of construction materials, in particular bricks, from waste is the best option. This will make the deposit a zero-waste site," Vinogradov said. .

The invited guests included representatives of the community; the activists underlined that such transparency is a move in the right direction. One of them, Seren Sheishenov, said: “We have just visited the company’s gold mining site. I really liked that the plants use the advanced technology; the area is green with trees. We toured almost everywhere. We didn’t see any violations there. I am really surprised, I didn’t think it was like that,” said Seren Sheishenov. During his visit of the Jeruy mine, he learned about the plan to produce construction materials from the industrial waste. He also noted that he saw tadpoles in the tailing ponds, and made sure that the company operated in a safe manner, and that there was no environmentally harmful activity.

Alliance Altyn’s operation is transparent. The corporate PR department circulates monthly Jeruy newsletters. These cover the company’s work over the past month, as well as information about the company’s activities, funds directed to the development of the region, implemented projects, etc. In addition, PR service cooperates closely with the government, community, local residents and stakeholders, provides them clear information, invites them to the mining site, and educates them about the site.
