Wild pheasants once again released at Jeruy gold mining site

17.03.2023

Wild pheasants were once again released in nature at Jeruy gold mining site. This was organized by Alliance Altyn company that operates the mine, and implemented by the Talas Society of Hunters and Fishermen.

In 2020, the society and the company signed an agreement on preservation and development of biodiversity at Jeruy site. Under the agreement, in December 2022, the company released 22 wild pheasants in the forest along the Chon-Chychkan River. Now, with the permission of the Ministry of Natural Resources, Environment and Technical Supervision of the Kyrgyz Republic, Vladimir Mazer, Chairman of the Talas Society of Hunters and Fishermen, and Alliance Altyn employees released another 10 birds near the same river.

The birds belong to Phasianus colchicus mongolicus species (Mongolian pheasant). They are brought from Manas district of Talas region.

Vladimir Mazer noted that the third release of the birds is scheduled in August 2023, as part of the agreement with Alliance Altyn. Mongolian pheasant can quickly adapt to the territory, survive and reproduce, he said. The species is not listed in the Red Book of the Kyrgyz Republic, but hunting of the birds at Jeruy site has been prohibited since 2020.

Last year, the company implemented trout stocking measures in the Chon-Chychkan and Tuz-Ashuu rivers, and sponsored the delivery of deer from Altai (Russian Federation) to Talas.
