Alliance Altyn Statement: Jeruy does not pollute Tush-Ashuu

07.08.2020

The day before, unknown individuals distributed a video message accusing the Alliance Altyn company via social networks. Allegedly, the exploitation of the Jeruy leads to the pollution of the Tush-Ashuu River. This accusation is unfounded.

A widespread video recorded a natural phenomenon: the turbidity of river water with clay and sandy loam. These natural components did not come from the quarry. Due to abundant precipitation, water flowing down from the mountains emanates through the Poselkovyi Creek, flows into the Jeruy River and then into the Chon-Chichkan River.

Today, on August 7, representatives of Bekmoldo aiyl okmotu, accompanied by employees of Alliance Altyn, inspected the source of pollution. After visiting the Zapadniy waste dump, the inspectors climbed up to 3,600 meters and saw that rainwater collects in streams and flows down the slopes. At the same time, small areas of the process road embankment are eroded, which muddies the water with clay, sandy loam and other natural components. The inspectors established that the pollution of surface water is a natural flood.

As for blasting operations at the quarry, they have not been carried out since July 23 this year. However, even during blasting operations, the Jeruy pit does not pollute rivers: the distance from the quarry to the Jeruy River is more than 3.6 km in a straight line, while the way to the confluence between the Jeruy River and the Chon-Chichkan River is 4 km long.

The Jeruy deposit development project complies with all the requirements of the environmental legislation of the Kyrgyz Republic and holds positive conclusions of state expert examinations. The discharge of polluted wastewater from production activities of both mining and processing complexes into the environment is technologically excluded.
